PROCEDURES IN DERMATOLOGY

Dermatology is a branch of Medicine, which deals with everything related to the skin, nail and hair. It includes the lesser known STD – sexually transmitted diseases and Leprosy.

It is perhaps, one of the fastest evolving branches of Medicine. The advancement is, more so in procedural Dermatology, which simply put, is doing some form of intervention on the skin, hair or nails. The earlier perception of treatment of skin diseases was that therapy was just limited to topical (creams, gels ointment, shampoo, soaps) and oral (tablet capsule sachet) therapy. In the modern times, with the advancement of technology, it has broadened to include physical modalities of treatment. The question arises about the need for such therapy and the safety of it. Skin conditions are most likely to be associated with psychological distress, given the higher chances of visibility. They can significantly affect the day to day activities. Moreover, the hesitation to go out into the public comes as a part and parcel of skin diseases. The problem with conventional therapy, is that it takes a long time, be it months to years. Physical modalities, be it, Lasers Chemical peels, Phototherapy, Platelet rich Plasma therapy, Botox, fillers or Hair transplantation, accelerate the process of treatment by 10 to 20 fold. That would imply that

1. The conditions that are not treatable can now be treated.
2. The overall expenditure is reduced
3. The results are faster and more satisfactory.
